Japanese metal act Babymetal have released a new song in collaboration with guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman of British power metal band Dragonforce. The song, titled “Road To Resistance” was premiered live at Babymetal’s concert at the Brixton Academy in London, England. It serves as a teaser for their upcoming live DVD Live At Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse.
You can check out the Babymetal + Dragonforce (Babyforce? Dragonmetal?) song below
Babymetal is comprised of singers Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal), Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) who handle all vocals and choreographed dancing routines. They are accompanied by a band of musicians, called the Full Metal Band, who handle instrumental duties live. While often labelled as “gimmicky”, Babymetal’s rise to fame was founded on their unique and extremely catchy blend of Japanese J-Pop and traditional heavy metal styles which has captured the attention of a very wide audience worldwide. They have played a string of sold out shows across various venues around the world, sharing stage with bands such as Deftones, Carcass, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Avenged Sevenfold and even Lady Gaga.
Speaking of the song itself, “Road To Resistance” is an extremely fast-paced song, with the Dragonforce guitarists taking complete control over the rhythm and lead sections, unlike most of the songs the Babymetal debut album. The three singers bring their classic J-Pop style to the vocal performance, along with some amazing choreographed dancing. What the song lacks in hooks and the general catchy feel attributed to most Babymetal songs, it makes up for in sheer pummeling speed, a worthy addition to Babymetal’s catalogue that is sure to please audiences live as well. What is interesting is that the track could pass for a Dragonforce song too- you can easily imagine listening to the track on a Dragonforce album.
Live At Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse is set to release on January 7th, 2015.
